Detoxification (detox for short) has become the newest fad and everyone seems to be looking for the “best” detox program. We end up scouring the Internet, which is loaded with misinformation, and end up on drastic cleanses that are more harmful than helpful.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to your health goal. And, when it comes to detox programs, most people are motivated by weight loss. So, they turn to gimmick detox programs that involve dangerous fasts and liquid diets that often require an ingestion of salt water solutions in order to “flush” the body and/or sticking solely to drinks such as cayenne, maple syrup, lemon and water, all of which will cause dramatic, but unsustainable weight loss. This is where Truestar can really help with natural, safe and effective products, like TrueDETOX, that will support your body through a detoxification the right way.
What everyone needs to understand is the purpose of a detox, i.e. what health goal you’re trying to achieve and how to do it safely.
The actual point of a detox is to rid your body of accumulated toxins from chemical exposure, pollutants, food additives and artificial sweeteners which all get stored in our organs and fat cells. Many people will start a detox with weight loss in mind and I encourage all weight loss protocols to begin this way, but it’s important to remember that the ACTUAL goal of a detoxification program is not weight loss. But, weight loss is a natural side effect and can a great motivator!
When to Do a Detox
The most common question I get asked is when should a detox be done? I have a few rules about this. Generally, everyone should detox once or twice a year. We take our cars in for regular maintenance and we need to do the same with our bodies. They need an annual tune-up as well! Even if you feel healthy, it’s a good idea to flush out all those toxins so they don’t accumulate and cause problems later on. I also encourage anyone starting a weight loss program to begin with a good, healthy detox, especially if you are overweight and have had unhealthy eating habits in the past. If that’s the case, you would have been exposed to high amounts of toxins, preservatives and additives in unhealthy foods that need to be eliminated.
Below are some of the negative side effects experienced by toxin exposure:

I also recommend a detox for anyone who starts to feel a little unwell, but there is nothing clinically wrong, or for individuals who suffer from any medical conditions, such as hypertension, diabetes, and even for cancer prevention – just to optimize our bodies’ health. And, if you suffer from any of the symptoms below, then you know it’s time for you to detox:

How to Do a Detox
The most important thing to remember when doing a detox is how to do it safely and effectively. A solid detoxification program involves lifestyle changes, dietary changes and supplementation. The lifestyles changes are to reduce your exposure to chemical and environmental pollutants. The dietary changes reduce your exposure to food additives and foods that are difficult to digest or which promote inflammation and even help identify possible food sensitivities. The supplementation portion is to promote the elimination of the stored toxins in our body while supporting our organs of detoxification: liver, gut, kidney, skin, lungs and lymphatic system.
Below is a list of Easy-to-Implement Lifestyle Tips to go along with your Detoxification Program:

- Eat organic as often as possible: especially meats and fruits or vegetables without a protective skin.
- Wash your fruits & veggies:

Dietary Guidelines
This is where Truestar’s world-leading Nutrition Portal is the most effective. I personally created the dietary outlines of the Detoxification Program on the Truestar website. When you select, “Choose Your Own Meal Plan”, under the Nutrition Section, you will be taken to the option to select the healthy “Detoxification Meal Plan”. The diet plan is gluten free and dairy free, and I suggest making other food eliminations to reduce your toxin exposure further and to also include foods that encourage optimal functioning of your body.
And, finally we come to supplementation, the most important part of a detoxification program. Using high-quality supplements to support your organs of detoxification is essential! Truestar’s TrueDETOX is my favourite detox supplement because it’s such a great blend of ingredients. The key with supplementation is to avoid laxatives and flushes and to use products that encourage the health of our organs. TrueDETOX is a blend of probiotics and fiber for intestinal health and regularity; liver support to encourage the health and function of our liver and to ensure everything is being processed as it should be; as well as kidney support to help with water retention and the health of our urinary tract. Overall, TrueDETOX is a great product to ensure a safe and effective detox! What to Expect on Your Detox
When detoxing, some people experience some negative side effects as the body adjusts to the new diet. Often individuals may experience headaches or fatigue, which is quite common as the body “withdraws” from the unhealthy foods it may have been consuming on a daily basis. This generally does not last longer than a week. I encourage you to be persistent!
Best of luck,
Dr. Andi
